| We are sorry to report the passing of Monsignor Robert J. Harrington. Monsignor Harrington was the pastor of the St. Mary of the Assumption Church from 1990-2013. He was singularly supportive of the Hispanic and Filipino ministries in the parish. His special activities included coordinator of the Newark Summer CYO Program, archdiocesan moderator for Catholic Girl Scouting, chaplain for Engaged Encounter, and a National Marriage Encounter Team priest. He was an instructor at Immaculate Conception Seminary and lecturer in family ministry. Father Harrington was named a papal chamberlain with the title of monsignor on Oct. 29, 1993, and was appointed dean of the City of Elizabeth in 1994. He was a regular visitor to St. Mary's High School and was a regular at the high school basketball games. He will be missed by the entire St. Mary's community. |
